First visit to the Oriental Museum

Tuesday, October 30, 2018

From the outset of this module, I knew that Iranian Art was an interest of mine, and that I would probably take the opportunity to explore this culture more in depth through my personal research. From my limited experience of visiting museums and reading up on the culture, I knew that the artwork appealed aesthetically to me and so was excited and motivated to research further in-depth to a field which held so much fascination.

I am also excited at the chance to try something new and create an audio-visual podcast, as an avid listener to podcasts within my own time, it is a field that I am interested in entering into in the future. This project will therefore afford me the chance to create a mini documentary and see whether the production of it appeals to me.

Whilst the Iranian Art was the obvious interest of mine, I didn't want to go into the museum with any preconceived notions of the object that I would choose - instead allowing the objects to 'speak to me' as Anthony and Rachel suggested. This led to a wide range of objects within my initial selection but in the end the bowl won my favour as I suspected something of this ilk might. The colours of it were eye-catching and the fragmentation intrigued me, after my initial meeting with Rachel my heart was set on it. The history of the item was vague, so much more further research will be needed but I am excited at the prospect of bringing the object to life in my mind and sharing this information with others.
